Mulberry leaf with an insert of red silk thread. Just as the veins of the leaf supply water and salts from the roots, so the irrigation ditches brought water to power the mills that set the spinning machines in motion. The leaves of the mulberry tree are the food for silkworms. In the past, the trunks served as permanent supports for grapevines (which, in fact, were called “married”). Mulberry leaves are one of the oldest and most widely used natural remedies in Asia. They are rich in health benefits and can be used in cooking and skincare. However, be careful if you use medications, as there may be contraindications. Silk Threads, City Museum of Rovereto, exhibition open until March 30, 2025.
